Due to the season's first snow and ice storm in December, the Farm to School (F2S) roundtable discussion is being rescheduled.
F2S pioneers Joan Lubke, Nancy Levandowsky, Kelly Duritsa, Kim Steele-Blair, Rob Stanley, and JD Cryer will meet with the Food Service Directors from Fairfield, Fremont, Harmony, North Mahaska, Tri-County, and Van Buren Community School Districts to discuss strategies for bringing farm-fresh foods to our youngest and brightest future. It looks as though the best new possible date for the meeting will be Thursday, January 28.
After five years of efforts to develop the local food system, our southeast Iowa region has finally gotten a fulltime Local Food Coordinator. “There are so many opportunities and different ways we can support our local foods,” says Elisabet Humble, the new Coordinator. Humble is working for the non-profit organization Pathfinders RC&D and recently finished classes at Maharishi University of Management for the completion of her Bachelors in Science Sustainable Living degree.
